ITA #35 – Becoming a God Centered Mom and The Art of Raising Boys – An Interview with Heather MacFadyen
My good friend Heather MacFadyen is sharing the art of raising boys - four of them! - and becoming a God-centered mom. She calls herself simply the "self-centered mom trying to be the God-centered mom."
Grab your headphones, join us for a chat and keep reading to learn more!
Heather is the mother of four young boys (born exactly, to the day, within 6 1/2 years . . . just like she’d always planned). Heather writes about motherhood and chronicles the humbling journey of “relentlessly replacing ‘me’ with ‘He’” — sharing the daily struggle of remaining God-centered while mothering four wild-at-heart, energetic, and often stubborn boys. She also interviews moms (& the occasional dad) on her own weekly podcast, God Centered Mom, available on iTunes.

Tip #1: Thoughts On Raising Boys
If you have very little boys, don't be shocked by their sin. Just like there's a flesh in us that entices us to sin, there is that same temptation in our children. Instead of asking "why," because they may not know, help them develop other responses.
- Give your boys a lot of opportunities to be physical.
- Have an expectation that your boys can also be gentlemen.

Tip #2: How To Be a God-Centered Mom
Becoming God-centered isn't about what physical actions we do or how often we read the Bible, but about changing our hearts and recognizing that each part of our day is really about God.
- Let God lead.
- Intentionally allow your children to see that God is the center of your family. It's a day-by-day, moment-by-moment choice.

If you're new to podcasts, think of them like little radio shows that you can listen to at your convenience. They are perfect to listen to and learn from as you workout, fold laundry, wash dishes or conquer the world.
1. Listen right here on the blog. Click through to the site and click the little play button at the beginning of this post.
2. Listen on your smartphone, iPad or iPod Touch - There are a lot of great podcasting apps. Apple has a free one in the app store, but I like one called Downcast. It allows me to search for shows, subscribe to them and even speed up the audio.
You can also listen via a free app (IOS and Android) called Stitcher.
3. Subscribe to the Podcast - just click here to access the podcast in iTunes. You can also search for it on your smartphone app (like the ones listed above) and subscribe.
