The Nester, Myquillyn Smith, joins host Kat Lee to talk about creating a cozy morning space. She shares about her morning routine and her background of helping people see their home’s hidden potential.
Then we dive into how to create a beautiful, functional space for your morning and how it really depends on your own unique needs and design aesthetic.
“I have a big basket next to my chair to hide all my books and markers. Then I have a cozy blanket on top. It makes me like that corner better. Paying attention to what annoys you and what welcomes you is really important.”
If you have an established morning spot, Myquillyn suggests quieting your space to see what you might need to take away from the area to make sure it’s optimized for your morning. Quieting is really just clearing out everything except the furniture. Then, make a Pinterest board for the type of space you like. Then, shop your house for items that help fit your vision.
“If we just pay attention, our house can tell us all kinds of things. Then we can arrange the main things like furniture with the people and the living in mind. When all that is in place, we can move on to the fun wall art and tchotchkes. And you might find you don’t even need them.”
Myquillyn shares a lot more inspiration in her new book Cozy Minimalist Home: More Style, Less Stuff. Learn more.
